A MERV 8 rating will do a great job of covering the basic requirement of system protection as well as keeping those undesirable particles at a minimum level. If you need greater protection from finer dust or have more serious allergy issues, a better choice for you may be either a MERV 11 or MERV 13 pleated filter.
